Our theme this week at Glitter Geeks is 'Happy New Year' - hopefully everyone's finished with the Christmas cards and is in the mood to make something a bit different! I've never made a card that was just for new year before, it's usually combined with Christmas isn't it but I had a little think about what might work and decided on the interesting and possibly obscure Roman god Janus. Here he is:
Janus is the god of beginnings and endings I think - he would appear on Roman doorways and gates, and the month of January is named after him. He has two faces - one looking backward, and one forward, which is what makes him a good symbol for New Year in my opinion! I got this image from Google. He's coloured with Promarkers but I left him quite flat to imitate the Roman style of art and I chose the paper for the same reason (it's from a Basic Grey collection themed around kitchens, oddly enough!) The sentiment is computer generated using a suitably Roman font called Justinian which I think I got from Dafont.
Thanks for visiting and I hope Janus was inspirational for you. This will be my last post before Christmas so I hope you all have a lovely time and I'll see you in 2012!
